Best Option

Before seeking a disposal or recycling option, consider reuse. Many items do not need to be thrown away if they are in good condition and/or still work, they can be reused! Some options include: - Resell online with apps or websites (Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist). - Donate items to reuse centers and thrift stores. Always call ahead to ensure the item can be donated. - You can also "upcycle" the item into something new. If reuse is not an option, please proceed to the following information about disposal and/or recycling options if available.

Drop-off - Recycling

The SOCRRA Recycling Drop-off Center is available by appointment only for residents of our 12 SOCRRA communities as well as residents of Bingham Farms, City of Bloomfield Hills, City of Rochester (Rochester residents must first purchase a voucher from their city office) and Village of Franklin. Residency will be verified by attendant and masks must be worn during scheduled appointment time while onsite. Click here to schedule an appointment. Another option for paper, cardboard, paper shredding and scrap metal recycling is GFL Recycling in Royal Oak. This site is open in the general public.

Drop-off - Appliances

This item may be dropped off for recycling (see rules and restrictions that apply).

Trash

Put this item in your garbage. Trash must be contained in bags. Bags or cans of trash cannot be larger than 35-gallons. Bags cannot weigh more than 40 pounds. Trash cans cannot weigh more than 60 pounds. Place trash container out to curb by 7 am on your collection day.

Special Instructions

Small household appliances made mostly of metal can be recycled at SOCRRA's Recycling Drop-off Center in the large bin labeled "scrap metal". Please do not place in your curbside recycling cart. If your item is still working and useful, consider selling or donation as options. These items can also be placed in the trash for disposal.
